This quote is from a discussion forum I found that talked about religion on Facebook. Someone who called him or herself Cookie Monster stated, "...church. It is more of a tradition/feel of community sort of thing for me. But I just don't really believe the miraculous stuff. I like most of the teachings that are attributed to Jesus, but I think many of your run of the mill "he has risen" type of Christian don't seem to truly follow that Jesus."
As I read over the posts, ( most of whom were standing up for their atheist views), my heart felt dismayed at the sheer number of people who recognize that Jesus exist in some form, but do not recognize Him as our Savior or even wish to know more about Him.
I felt the above shared quote summed it up.
And oh, how it must sadden the heart of Jesus, as He continually watches humanity turn from Him, mocking and laughing at who He is, His purpose, His love.
Yet, scripture tells us that Jesus is always there waiting and knocking to see if and when these lost ones will answer that knock. He tells us that He will come in and sup with us.
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. Revelation 3:20
Scripture also shows us that His love is so great for us, that He will even leave the ninety-nine to go after just one who is lost.
How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goes into the mountains, and seeks that which is gone astray? Matthew 18:12
For anyone who has ever felt insignificant or alone, may this scripture bring comfort.
God's word has warned us about the dangers of living in the world, about the sinfulness of mankind .
He warns us of false religion, of false Gods, of selfishness, pride and ego.
The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: “Stand in the gate of the Lord's house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of the Lord, all you men of Judah who enter these gates to worship the Lord. Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Amend your ways and your deeds, and I will let you dwell in this place. Do not trust in these deceptive words: ‘This is the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord.’
“For if you truly amend your ways and your deeds, if you truly execute justice one with another, if you do not oppress the sojourner, the fatherless, or the widow, or shed innocent blood in this place, and if you do not go after other gods to your own harm, then I will let you dwell in this place, in the land that I gave of old to your fathers forever.
“Behold, you trust in deceptive words to no avail. Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, make offerings to Baal, and go after other gods that you have not known, and then come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, ‘We are delivered!’—only to go on doing all these abominations? Has this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Jeremiah 7:1-11
These abominations destroy the heart of man, making it cold and they cloud the mind with confusion, as more of the pollution of worldly living takes hold and fills the human condition with ugly and unGodly ways. We see it in word and action among so many men, women and children today.
And as it is taught in school and after school programs or activities, so many young children begin to get brainwashed from a young age. They have parents or grandparents who are active participants of fraternities or lodges and their children are placed in the child equivalent of these organizations so that they can also achieve greatness as they grow up in life. Its all about achieving their own goodness and sometimes God-hood as they grow and serve in an unGodly world filled with pride and ego about their own goodness and achieving recognition for that goodness.
Where is God in all of this?
He is watching and waiting.
You see, inside each and every one of us, at the time of conception, God
was at work, knitting us together for His glory and honor.
And in doing so, He placed into each one of us an innate knowledge of Him, our Father.
For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother’s womb.
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well. Psalm 139:13-14
And He tells us that as children He keeps us, safe and protected and close to Him.
“Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 19:14).
Then one day, as we grow and begin to make our own choices we reach an age of accountability where we are held responsible for our decisions and actions in this world.
As Satan, the enemy of our God seeks to destroy God's kingdom, he strives to defile mankind, creating chaos and confusion and often torment in order to turn God's beautiful creation against Him.
God tells us about the enemy of our souls. He speaks about the Father of lies whose intent is to whisper into the ears of mankind improper thoughts or ideas and then he takes joy as he watches God's children stumble and fall.
“(The devil) was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar, and the father of lies” John 8:44
And while we are down, that enemy of our God causes even more trouble. And sometimes Satan's ways are so subtle, that we don't even know that we have been "duped" until its seems like its too late. The father of lies then begins to tell us that we are no good, we are sinners, there is no hope, we are not worthy. Too often as parents are duped, so are the children brought up in the ways of the world and not the ways of our Lord.
Those fraternities and organizations that seemed to be so alluring in the beginning suddenly become a trap, a snare that is hard to get out of. Many times as the enemy of our God has men women and children takes oaths of secrecy with threats to cause physical harm or death, God's children become filled with fear and disillusioned as to what to do next.
Blinded by the fear and disillusionment, they too often succumb to the lifestyle of the evil one and they don't even realize that the true nature and reality of our Father in Heaven is to love and forgive.
Perhaps that is how atheists are formed...blinded souls unable to see and feel the presence of our Lord, judging and questioning and mocking His name, but never seeking to know the truth.
Are they not just a people who are satisfied with the lie?
There is good news!
Jesus came to set the captives free!
We have been given the handbook for life in the Bible which is filled with the knowledge and truth of our Lord.
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
Yes, it has stories of Jesus birth, teachings and miracles. And that is just a part of the awesomeness of our Savior. He is for sure our very best friend...the lover of our soul. In Him we find life! We find truth!
But as Cookie Monster (above) stated: "...church. It is more of a tradition/feel of community sort of thing for me. I just don't really believe the miraculous stuff. I like most of the teachings that are attributed to Jesus, but I think many of your run of the mill "he has risen" type of Christian don't seem to truly follow that Jesus.
Jesus isn't just a church feeling. He isn't just or tradition of a community gathering where people listen to stories about a man named Jesus.
Jesus is the Great I AM; the bread of life, the light of the world, the good shepherd, the resurrection and the life, the way, the truth, and the life!!
My prayer for today is that we pray for the people who recognize that Jesus exist in some form, but do not recognize Him as our Savior. May they see Who He is and fall on their knees in reverence to Him.
May we all earnestly seek Him for direction and relationship in this disillusioned sin filled world. For it is in Christ alone that we find a life where we are free of the sins of worldliness and that we are forgiven through repentance. In that we find freedom to live and to love with a God heart, His own heart.
We don't have to live a life disillusioned. We don't have to believe the lie!
As our Father in Heaven tells us in His Word, Choose this day whom you will serve!
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
Praise God from Whom ALL Blessings come and Blessings to ALL in Jesus precious Name. Amen.
