HEAVENLY THOUGHTS

That "black ice" moment...Psalm 91

The weather forecast was calling for a wintry mix of freezing drizzle, snow turning to rain and then more freezing drizzle with an accumulation of 1/10th inch of ice before it ends.
That didn't sound too ominous, as we set out early to get a few groceries in town 10 miles away. I drove slowly, being cautious of what they call black ice on the road.
It wasn't too bad really, and the freezing drizzle had even stopped.
Wonderful.  I thought that maybe the weather had changed, as it so often does in the Midwest.  The best way to know the weather is usually to go outside and see it firsthand because the forecast changes so often.
It started raining and I checked the temperature on my weather app on my phone.  It was 34 degrees. It was above freezing and I thought it would just get warmer now.
As we crossed the bridge over the Mississippi River, we were passed by a semi truck and it was apparent that the road was just wet, with no freezing.
Of course the bridge had been treated with de-icer previously.
The trip  home would be easy. I continued to drive cautiously. As I
turned into town, I had become confident that the slick conditions had passed.  I came down the road at a pace I considered slow, even slowing more for a fluffy tail squirrel crossing the road in front of me.  I accelerated a bit to get to my turn at the corner by my church.
Suddenly, I felt my car sliding out of control. I was headed toward a utility pole!  I turned the wheel a bit and applied the brake, as my car ever so gently came to a smooth stop right before the pole.
I sat there for a moment in amazement, as I believed that the condition of the road was safe. I had just come so close to a collision which would have undoubtedly caused damage to my vehicle and possibly those of us
in the car.
As I continued to my driveway, I thanked Jesus for keeping us safe, sparing my car from damage and for reminding me that all too often when we think things are going okay, many times there still remains that that unseen threat...that "black ice" moment that takes us by surprise, shakes us and makes us aware of a higher power, our Savior, His love for us and the importance of life.

My thought for today is, "Have you talked with God lately?" or will you wait for that "black ice" moment in your life when things get slippery and out of control before you recognize Him...or seek Him?

Our Father in Heaven loves us all and calls us unto Him.  Perhaps it is time to stop living unconsciously for the world and neglecting God.  In Psalm 91, He gives us His promise of protection, as He remains near to us, ever present in our lives, our close calls...our "black ice" moments.

My prayer is that we seek God every day and give Him praise.  He is our Father, our Creator, Magnificent, Wonderful, full of Love and Worthy of Adoration. May His light shine through us in our testimony, our actions and our love.
Blessings to all in Jesus precious name.  Amen

Psalm 91
1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
    will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
    my God, in whom I trust.”
3 Surely he will save you
    from the fowler’s snare
    and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers,
    and under his wings you will find refuge;
    his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night,
    nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
    nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side,
    ten thousand at your right hand,
    but it will not come near you.
8 You will only observe with your eyes
    and see the punishment of the wicked.
9 If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
    and you make the Most High your dwelling,
10 no harm will overtake you,
    no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
    to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands,
    so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
    you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
14 “Because he[b] loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
    I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him;
    I will be with him in trouble,
    I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him
    and show him my salvation.”
