If I have not love...I gain nothing.
Imagine how great life would be if love came easy for everyone.
Our hearts would be overflowing with goodness and joy for one another.
There wouldn't be any reason to fight or disagree. All would be good.
Love would be the answer to every problem faced.
And that is how it should be.
Our Father in Heaven tells us many times in His Word that
we are to love. In fact, it is the first commandment and second commandment.
Jesus said to him, 'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' (Matthew 22:37–39)
Unfortunately, for many people love doesn't come first. It comes second, third or maybe not at all.
Love is sought after by almost everyone. We have an innate need to be wanted, to be loved and held. We desire to feel safe and secure and at peace.
Most of us search for our soul mate, a best friend, a child or a parent to fulfill our need for love.
Some people meet a first love in school and get married, living happily ever after. For others, it isn't that easy and they search practically under every rock and from every hill top seeking an elusive love.
The Bible tells us, however, that our first love is to be divine. It is to be a
love for Our Father in Heaven through His son, Jesus Christ.
It is an awesome love that fulfills deep within our heart. It is so deep, in fact, that when we allow God's love into our hearts, it is deeply penetrating; even overflowing.
It isn't like a romantic love that makes you feel good for a period of time and then fades away. It isn't even a friendship type love.
It is agape love, a love from deep inside of the core of who we are.
It is an awesome love; one to be shared with all people, just because they are children of God. All of God's creation deserves and desires to be deeply loved.
If a person is void of love, they may try to fulfill their lives with other things. Work, hobbies, rebellion or even church activities are a few ways that we search to fulfill the need for that deep agape love that our Father in Heaven provides.
His Word tells us:
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. (1 Corinthians 13: 1-3)ESV
My prayer for today is that we seek the heart of our Father in Heaven through Jesus Christ, His Son. In doing so we become fulfilled and overflowing with His love and when we fulfill the first commandment by loving God, the second commandment becomes easier. As His Word tells us: If we have not love...we gain nothing.
If we have love, we never fail.
Blessing to all in Jesus precious Name, Amen.
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
(1 Corinthians 13: 4-8)ESV
