Imagine sitting quietly in your home, feeling rested and very much at ease when there is a knock at the door. You look out the window first before answering.  The man standing there appears to be a gentlemen.  He is holding a briefcase, so you figure this must be important and you open the door and let him in. 
The man is cordial, stating his name and offering to show you a few items that will make your life easier. His words have piqued your interest so you sit back and allow him to start his presentation to you.
 
It doesn't take long before this man is talking fast, too fast for you to understand.  He is a salesman for sure.  You are becoming confused and he doesn't seem to care.  He has a lot to say and the items he is presenting seem to be a good idea. After all, doesn't everyone want their life to be easier?  Doesn't everyone want the items that lead to less work and more time to play.
 
After an hour or so of your time, the salesman asks you which items you would like.  He offers you a great low price -- just a few dollars a month for... life!  You flinch a little at the costs, but it'll be worth it because after all -- it will make life easier for the rest of your life!! 
 
You get your checkbook, write out the first month's payment and expect your items to arrive in the mail in 4 to 6 weeks. 
The slick talking salesman hurriedly tucks your check inside his pocket and zips his briefcase.  After a quick goodbye, he is off to the next house on the block. 
You think to yourself.... Did he even say thank you? 
 
You sit down and begin to look over the receipt he gave you. 
Hmmm.  Yes... items will arrive in 4 to 6 weeks, first payment is made and -- oh no!!

The small print reads... no returns or refunds. 
What have you done?  Did you just make a lifetime commitment to pay for something that you've never seen before and may or may not even receive? Just to make your life easier? 
 
You begin to feel worried and deceived.  What will you do?  Who can you contact for help? 
 
That salesman sure was a great deceiver!!
 
Many of us have seen the picture of Jesus knocking at the door. “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; If any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and sup with him, and he with me.” (Revelation 3:20 KJV)
 
Perhaps we should all be aware that Satan is the great Deceiver.  Like the salesman, he also stands at the door and knocks.  But if you let him in, he will not sup with you, as Jesus will, but seeks to steal and destroy you from the moment you let him in. 
 
Like the salesman, Satan is a thief, a liar and a fast talker.  He seeks to get in the minds of God's children and confuses them one by one, just as the salesmen goes door to door, leaving his victims fearful and worried about what just happened to them.  Satan seeks to fill God's people with stress, disease, physical and emotional turmoil, family issues and so much more.
 
Rest assured however that the great deceivers of this world have already been conquered by the death of Jesus. He bore for us all the pain, curses, diseases and iniquities that would ever come our way, the day He hung on the cross.
And with blood pouring from His wounded body, He cried out for the forgiveness of those who brought Him to the cross.
 
Just as Jesus forgave those that betrayed Him, we also must offer forgiveness for all who hurt and betray us.  That includes the deceivers and the salesmen of the world.
 
God created us to be whole and complete in Him, free of the pains of the world, free of the emotional burdens and stresses and diseases of this world.  We are to live life free of worry about today or tomorrow. We are to live for Him, in Him with the fruits of the Holy spirit - infused with sanctifying grace, the life of God within us.
 
Let us always remember to look and see who is knocking at our door.
We have a choice of who we let into our hearts and our homes.
Let us remember that the false promises of the salesman for an easier life is just that -- false.
It is always better to gaze upon the face of Jesus, to let Him in, to allow Him to sup with us, and us with Him.
